M. Scott Leonard, Attorney
Scott Leonard is a business lawyer admitted to practice law in Illinois and Florida. Mr. Leonard has extensive experience representing companies and people in international and domestic litigation, arbitration and mediation involving debtor/creditor, secured financing, employment, contract business tort, trademark and copyright litigation and real estate matters. He is experienced in resolving disputes by alternative means, including arbitration and mediation.
On the transactional side, Mr. Leonard advises small and mid-sized international and domestic companies, including foreign-owned subsidiaries, who seek to do business in the United States or abroad on corporate, real estate and trade law matters. Mr. Leonard has drafted international brokerage and distribution agreements, sales terms and purchase contracts, export/import documents, and cross-border business contracts.
Mr. Leonard received his J.D. cum laude from the St. Thomas University School of Law. During law school, he served as two-term president of the International Law Society and was an active member of the International Moot Court Board and a Phillip C. Jessup International Moot Court competitor. He served as a federal judicial intern to the Honorable Ted E. Bandstra, Magistrate Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Prior to law school, Mr. Leonard earned a Master of Arts with distinction in Diplomatic Studies from the University of Westminster. His graduate dissertation, which explored the US role in mediating the Dayton Peace Accords and involved investigative interviews with journalists, soldiers, academics and diplomats, received academic honors.
He lives in Chicago with his wife and daughter and is a volunteer mediator with the Center for Conflict Resolution.
